Questions


  1. Does your system incorporate multi-level descriptions?
    If yes, go on to next question.
    If no, an object-oriented library approach may be better for your purposes than EUAN.

  2. Is a significant proportion of the archive material catalogued?
    If yes, go to next question.
    If no, consider whether you should give priority to cataloguing effort before using Internet to display.

  3. Is a significant proportion of the descriptive (catalogue) data available in electronic form?
    If yes, go to next question.
    If no consider whether to give priority to conversion to electronic form before using Internet to display.

  4. Does the system distinguish record description information from information on record creators?
    If yes, go to next question.
    If no consider whether information on records and record creators can be separated.

  5. Does your archival descriptive system enable you to provide rich top level descriptions e.g. administrative/biographical histories?
    If yes go to next question
    If no, consider how much work is required to provide these.

  6. Can the system generate the 13 core ISAD elements identified by EUAN?
    If yes go to question 7
    If no, you cannot at this stage join the EUAN project; consider how to provide the minimum elements and try again.

  7. Can the system implement the rules given in the Prototype Descriptive System?
    If yes, go to question 8
    If no, consider how to comply with the rules and try again.

  8. Is electronic access available to detailed descriptions, and can these be linked electronically to the top-level descriptions in the EUAN prototype?
    If yes go to question 10
    If no, go to question 9.

  9. Is it possible to e-mail a human reference service for more detailed information?
    If yes go to question 10.
    If no, it is probably not sensible to put the descriptions on the Internet.

  10. Can your system export data in EAD or in MARC-AMC?
    If yes go to number 12.
    If no, go to question 11.

  11. Can your system export data in another exchange format?
    If yes, please contact us and tell us which format.
    If no, you cannot join the EUAN project at this point.

  12. If you have reached here, your system satisfies the minimum requirements to join the EUAN project.
